"(Sayuki) went from someone who was at the end of the bench, just getting a little bit of playing time, focusing on rebounding and defense to arguably one of the most consistent outside shooters on her team.
She went from somebody that was eager to get the ball out of her hands as soon as it came to her, in her seventh grade year, to someone that, when her team was having trouble breaking the press, her coach would put in as point guard. She became one of the primary ball handlers.
And that confidence went beyond the basketball court - She became a team captain last year - Which was amazing to see - and she's more involved in leadership things at school at this point. So when I say that the expense feels well justified on our end, that is a literal fact."
- Brian Elkevizth

"BJ is a fantastic coach who has really helped develop my son’s skills as well as his love of the game. BJ coaches in such a supportive way that makes my son feel comfortable and wanting to get more and more coaching. We feel so lucky to have found him."
- Nikki Curran

"Exceptional basketball training based in NH. My child has grown both as a player and as a person while working with Coach BJ Mumford. He is very detailed and the training is technical. Highly recommend."

The Premier Basketball Confidence Training
Program for Future High School Varsity Players

"The program has been exactly what he needed. We’re working on every part of his game, and his ability to make confident decisions on the court has improved tremendously.
When he first started, he wasn’t always sure where to be or what to do when he got the ball. Now, he has the confidence to recognize his options, react to both offensive and defensive situations, and move with purpose.
His skills have improved, but the biggest change has been his confidence. He is starting to play without overthinking, react naturally to what is happening around him, and understand what needs to be done on the floor.”
- Francis Lewis
Your player wants to make varsity. Hope is not a plan.
The jump from middle school ball to a high school varsity roster is the hardest transition in youth basketball, and most families face it without a plan or anyone who owns the result.
Every spring and every fall, hard-working kids walk into tryouts and walk out cut. Not because they didn't care. Because nobody built them a path.
Most families piece it together: a clinic here, an AAU team there, a trainer when the schedule allows. Each coach sees one slice of your player. Nobody sees the whole picture, and nobody is accountable for where it ends up.
Meanwhile the clock runs. 7th grade becomes 8th. 8th becomes freshman tryouts.
You keep writing checks, but you can't answer the questions that matter:
Is my player actually getting better, or just getting reps?
Which team should they play on next season?
Are they on track to make the high school team, or falling behind?
What should we be doing differently right now?
By 10th grade, the varsity window is either open or it's closing. The families who get there don't leave it to chance.
One coaching team. One plan. One goal: varsity.
The Varsity Preparation Program is a 36-month commitment built around one result: getting your player onto their high school team and contributing at the varsity level by the end of 10th grade.
This is our best work. For years, the most rewarding thing we do at Play Practice Basketball has been guiding players through the transformation from middle school to high school varsity.
So we've doubled down on it, and we've built a program that takes full ownership of that journey.
Instead of scattered sessions and guesswork, your player gets:
- Coaches who know their game inside and out, working with them every single week, year-round
- A clear development plan that adapts as they grow, season to season and tryout to tryout
- A trusted advisor in your corner, helping you make the big decisions on teams, programs and next steps
- A guarantee that puts our money where our mouth is at every tryout along the way
You stop guessing. We take responsibility for the path. Your player does the work, and we make sure that work adds up to a varsity roster spot.
Three years. Three tryouts. A plan for every step.
VPP runs on a simple weekly rhythm that keeps your player improving and keeps you informed, every month for 36 months.
Every week
- 1:1 training session. Focused, individual work with your player's coach, year-round, built around what they need to make the next team.
- Dr. Dish shooting session. High-volume, tracked shooting reps on the Dr. Dish machine, so shooting improvement is measured, not guessed.
- Film review with voiceover feedback. Your player sends game or workout film; we send back a voiceover video breaking down what we see and what to work on.
- Mentorship access. Text or call with questions, wins, struggles and game-day nerves. Your player is never on their own between sessions.
Every month
Advisory call with Coach BJ. We review results together, talk through team and program options, and decide on next steps as your player progresses.
Anytime
- Group programs and 3X3 Leagues. Unlimited access to any of our group programs and 3X3 Leagues for live competition and game reps.
- Online course curriculum. Full access to every current and future online course, so your player can train at home and on the road.
At every tryout
The Next-Level Guarantee kicks in. If your player doesn't make the next-level team, we pay their team fee so they can play on the team of your choice. (Details below.)
Built for committed players and the families behind them.
The VPP is designed for players in the 7th to 10th grade window, the years that decide whether a high school varsity spot happens.
It's the right fit if your family:
- Is committed to a long-term goal of playing high school varsity basketball, or beyond
- Believes in our approach and philosophy to player development
- Values the results your player has already produced with us
- Is convinced we can help your player reach their goals
This is not for you if:
- You're looking for a few sessions to try things out
- Your player isn't sure they want to put in the work
- You want a program that promises results without asking anything of the player
We offer VPP to only a handful of players each year, by invitation. If you're reading this, it's because we believe your player can get there, and we want to be the ones who help them do it.
Concerns other parents have when considering this commitment
"$20,000 is a lot of money." It's a serious investment, and we treat it that way. Spread over 36 months, it's about $556 a month, roughly the same as a used car payment. For that, your player gets weekly 1:1 and Dr. Dish training, unlimited group programs and leagues, weekly film review, mentorship access and a monthly advisory call. Most families already spend a large share of that on scattered programs with no plan and no guarantee.
"What if my player doesn't make the team?" Then we pay their team fee so they can play on a team you choose. That's the Next-Level Guarantee. We're confident enough in the program to put our own money on the line at every tryout.
"36 months is a long commitment." Varsity players aren't built in a season. The growth that matters (skill, strength, basketball IQ, confidence) compounds over years. A 36-month commitment lets us plan for the long game instead of patching holes session by session.
"We already play AAU or club ball." Great. VPP works alongside it. Your monthly advisory call is where we help you decide which team and program is the right next step, so the time and money you spend on club ball actually moves your player forward.
"Our schedule is already packed." The core is one 1:1 and one Dr. Dish session a week. Film review, mentorship, and the online curriculum fit around school, practices, and travel. Group programs and leagues are there whenever you want them, not required.
"My child is a 3 sport athlete" We trust that you will have seasons of intense schedule, and seasons of lighter schedules; and over time, it will all even out. We might see your player 6 days a week in the summer when they are free, and 1 day a week during their other sport seasons. This is designed to work with you, building compound interest of steady growth in parallel with other activities, without taking over your life or burning out your player!
"We just paid for a program with you." With the Rollover discount, the full amount you already paid for your last program comes off the $20,000, reducing either your pay-in-full amount or each monthly payment.
The Next-Level Guarantee
We don't just say we can get your player there. We back it.
If your player doesn't make the next-level team at each tryout through 10th grade, we will pay their team fee so they can play on a team of your choice.
That means:
At every tryout on the path (8th, 9th and 10th grade), the goal is the next-level team
If they don't make it, you don't pay for the backup plan. We do
Your player keeps playing, keeps competing, and keeps developing, without missing a season
No other training program we know of puts its own money on the line like this.
We do it because we've seen what this program produces, and we only offer it to players we believe in.
We help your player become varsity-prepared starting in 7th grade.
Other programs use your player for the short-term win this season, with no thought of their long-term development.
We help your player become varsity-prepared by using the compound interest over a 3-year development plan, starting as early as 7th grade
The investment: $20,000 over 36 months, about $556 a month.
What's included:
- A weekly 1:1 and Dr. Dish session, year-round
- Access to any of our group programs and 3X3 Leagues
- Access to all current and future online course curriculum
- Weekly film review and feedback via voiceover video
- Weekly mentorship access via text or phone call
- A monthly advisory call with Coach BJ
- The Next-Level Guarantee at every tryout through 10th grade
Pay-in-full bonus: Keys to the Gym ($12,960 value)
Pay in full and become a VIP contributor, helping us upgrade our court surface this year. Your player trains on the new floor for all 36 months, and you get free Keys to the Gym access: reserve private court time day, night, or on holidays, anytime we're not training, up to 3 hours per week for all 36 months.
Rollover discount: Already in one of our programs? Take the full amount you paid for your last program off the $20,000, reducing your pay-in-full amount or each monthly payment.
Only a handful of spots each year. VPP is offered by invitation to a small group of players so everyone gets our full attention.
