The Confidence Chronicle/Philosophy of Play Practice/The only orthopedic surgeon I ever met

Was the guy squeezing my broken arm...

Until my eyes watered (I was a 10-year-old and did NOT cry).

There are many varieties of doctors in the world, from general practitioners to dermatologists.

Most deal with more abstract or surface-level symptoms, are often left with their best educated guesses about the cause, and frequently use trial-and-error treatments.

Orthopedists deal with the physics of your body’s scaffolding - they understand, diagnose, and prevent musculoskeletal system conditions, and use photographic evidence for diagnosis (X-rays).

They are the bone doctors.

Here is where my mind takes me, thinking back to Dr. Eye-Watering Arm-Squeezer:

If team coaches are the general practitioners, and skill trainers are the dermatologists, I want to be the bone doctor.

I want to maintain my focus on the deeper issues - the core principles, ideas, decisions, and skills that are the scaffolding on which a basketball Player is built.
