Play Practice Basketball

Portsmouth, NH's Premier Basketball Confidence Training Program

Testimonial

"The decision-making program has been exactly what he needed. We’re working on every part of his game, and his ability to make confident decisions on the court has improved tremendously.
When he first started, he wasn’t always sure where to be or what to do when he got the ball. Now, he has the confidence to recognize his options, react to both offensive and defensive situations, and move with purpose.
His skills have improved, but the biggest change has been his confidence. He is starting to play without overthinking, react naturally to what is happening around him, and understand what needs to be done on the floor.”

 The Problem

Your player is skilled in practice, but freezes up in games.

You, the coach, the other team - in fact, everyone else in the entire gym sees opportunities for your player to attack and score, but they do not.
Many paths can lead to this outcome, but the fact is - your player has developed a decision-delay that prevents them from actually seeing the opportunities right in front of them during games.
And they have reasons: “That teammate was supposed to go there, and didn’t do their job”
Maybe even rational excuses: “Coach said we have to run this play this way, or we’ll sit on the bench”
For some players, it shows up as just passing every time they touch the ball, like a hot potato
For others, it results in a spasm-like shot to get the ball out of their hands and take an acceptable action (but you can tell that’s not their normal shot)
Other players attack the basket, but throw their body into the defense and throw their hands up at the referee for not calling a foul
And still others use 7 dribble crossovers before attacking, delaying long enough that the window of opportunity for an advantage has closed.

All of these have the same core causality:
Your player is either not sure WHAT to do in this situation, or is afraid of making a mistake
The result is they will do ANYTHING to avoid an action they see as a risk, but by doing so they are resolving themselves to being frozen in time - only attempting those skills they are absolutely certain of in games, and never adding a new skill or capability.
The outcome is always the same - deferring to teammates, moving without attacking, and self-criticism of mistakes that feels like self-flagellation to prevent others from criticizing their actions, until one day they decide to quit playing basketball.

 The Solution

The Decision-Maker course is designed to provide a framework for making Real-Time decisions in 1 second or less by utilizing clarity, certainty, simplicity, and speed!
Other programs script what your player can and cannot do, while criticizing their mistakes, ultimately undercutting their confidence to make any decisions or take any risks
We help your player become a Real-Time Decision-Maker by providing a framework that they can leverage to adapt to any situation!

We will cover 4 major principles of Situational Decisions:

  • Catch decisions
  • Drive decisions
  • Off-the-dribble decisions
  • Off-ball decisions

 How it works!

5 touch points we use every week to layer on each concept like a coat of paint - what we call our "PERCQ" System:

  • 🎥 Prime their brain with a preview video
  • 🎯 "Espresso" workout - a high-intensity injection of basketball ideas and execution in as little as 30 minutes
  • 🏀 Compete vs peers in 1v1 and 2v2 live situational games
  • 📹  Record stats and video of every workout
  • 📝 Quiz them to lock in concepts

 Example weekly commitment:

  • Mon - watch a 15 min preview video
  • Tues - attend a 30 min 1on1 training session (can be scheduled any day that suits you!)
  • Wed - review recording of your workout on Homecourt, practice at home
  • Thurs - take a 3-5 question quiz
  • Fripractice at home, referencing video as needed
  • Sat/SunAttend a 60-minute SOCK competition group with peers

 Who is This For?

SOCKS™ transition program for players who are ready to level up:

  • In 5th grade or higher
  • That have played 2+ years of basketball and
  • Are ready to FOCUS on improving their skill level in a way that translates to games

 Objections!

Why only 4 weeks?

Going deep on a single focus with a hybrid approach for 4-weeks is our tried-and-tested solution to mastering a skill set, and each of our courses uses "interleaving" to overlap on core skills and concepts from a variety of game situations

Why so expensive?

We deliver game performance results, guaranteed. We are not counting minutes... only results!

We spent 20 years perfecting our instructions and progression of skills and concepts to eliminate wasted time, and maximize the effectiveness of our repetitions

We specialize in this age group from 7th grade to varsity-ready, so we know exactly what they are capable of, how they think, and what works for them

We are a simplifier - we can take the most complex skill and concept and make it digestible, achievable, and even easy for your player in minutes!

Isn't this just another "skills and drills" night?

No! Skills and drills is what everyone else does:
- often as a token add-on to a program, otherwise focused on team coaching
- with huge groups of 20+ kids on a court
- working on skills in isolation from any decision-making or game application

We work with a max of 8 players per group, with competitive discovery of problems, skills as solutions, and immediate game application of skill in competitive situations

Why should I choose this format?

1on1 training is like tutoring - it has a great amount of leverage in getting 150+ repetitions with the full focus of coach and player to make a change with a deep level of understanding and certainty

The group competition is optional, but produces better outcomes by connecting the dots between 1:1 skills and the full team game by using our Play-Practice-Play format.

The “magic recipe” is when we get both the skill breakdown and competition consistently every week - then results start to compound quickly!

What if I can't make it to the group training session?

No worries, the core program is built around the 1:1 sessions, so the SOCK group is treated like “office hours” - an optional opportunity to get more reps against peers and refine the skill-to-decision-making connection to better translate to games.

We’ll add you to all sessions of the SOCK group in the month you begin training and the month you end your 4 weeks of training, usually bridging 6+ weeks - so come to as many as you can!
